Last Friday, colleagues from across campuses joined our membership meeting to discuss where bargaining currently stands. It was clear that the current proposals from Columbia do not meet the needs and priorities members have consistently raised.

Members discussed what it will take to move Columbia at the bargaining table. At the meeting, a motion was presented to open a Strike Authorization Vote (SAV). An SAV is the process through which members can authorize our Bargaining Committee to call a strike if necessary). All attendees were in favor and we voted to open the SAV in conjunction with the expiration of the contract – tonight, July 15th. Therefore, unless an agreement is reached by tonight, all Columbia Postdoctoral Worker members will receive a link to the ballot around 10 AM, and a vote will be open to authorize a strike.
The next few weeks will be decisive in determining the kind of contract we win. A strong and rapid turnout in the SAV will demonstrate our collective power at the bargaining table. Every vote matters. Every click matters. Every conversation with a coworker about the SAV matters.
