Sinai postdocs:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Columbia Postdocs have supported Mount Sinai postdocs while they were forming a union, and our campaigns have coordinated closely on our contract campaigns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mt. Sinai postdocs (SPOC) continue to bargain their first contract and are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/givebutter.com\/B6qY1P\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">currently ON STRIKE<\/a>!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once they have a contract, they will formalize their union. Our region (UAW 9A) has asked that we consider joining together with SPOC to create a combined (\u2018amalgamated\u2019) union of postdocs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We will discuss and vote on this topic &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1W9Eejw8dmTM-sKZQoSoYDbW24IIWt65o\/view?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here are some details on this process<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/columbiapostdocunion.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Whats-New-In-My-Contract.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Contract Implementation<\/a>: Updates on raises and lump sum payments<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>New Committees<\/strong>: Forming new committees to help with setting up the Hardship Fund, representing International Workers Issues, Diversity\/Equity\/Inclusion, and additionally a Civil and Human Rights committee.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/columbiapostdocunion.org\/get-involved-form\/working-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sign up here if you are interested<\/a>!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A financial motion to hire legal counsel to help with negotiating a contract with our Local\u2019s staff:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>As previously mentioned, our staff member is part of a union representing other UAW international and local staff. Bargaining is ongoing (<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1cfBKKwfQjii6kQVWmR-ZC4FER34zBTO1\/view?usp=sharing\">see demands HERE<\/a>), for a contract that will cover our Local\u2019s staff, meaning our Local is on the \u2018management\u2019 side of this process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This bargaining process requires time &amp; resources.&nbsp;<strong>We can hire legal counsel to assist with this<\/strong>, which would cost ~$300\/hour, likely for several hours per month.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our Union Local has ongoing elections! Don\u2019t forget to nominate yourself for steward and Executive board positions<\/strong>.
