Here are the headlines:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>\ud83d\uddf3\ufe0f 962<\/strong> postdocs &amp; associate researchers <strong>voted<\/strong> in our strike authorization vote &#8211; our highest participation since the 2018 vote to form our union!&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>\u2705 97.56%<\/strong> of union members <strong>VOTED YES<\/strong> to authorize the bargaining committee to call a strike if there is not enough progress towards our contract demands<\/li><li>\u270d\ufe0f In addition, <strong>over 130 new members have signed a membership card <\/strong>&nbsp;to officially join our union since bargaining started, greatly building our power (haven\u2019t signed yet? <a href=\"https:\/\/columbiapostdocunion.org\/mc\/\">Do it here<\/a>!)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is next?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Wednesday August 30th at 6.30pm <\/strong>we will have our monthly membership meeting, in which we will discuss next steps including bargaining updates and if\/when\/how we would consider a strike<ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSeYCNfD0qnOkC-3TMJB6wt1LVhkMoZnS9rlZ3-M2wfH9BB2hg\/viewform\"><strong>RSVP for the meeting in person or zoom here<\/strong><\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>On <strong>Thursday<\/strong> <strong>August 31st<\/strong> starting at 10am (current location is Studebaker but trying to move it to CUIMC) &#8211; we will have our <strong>19th bargaining session<\/strong>. Our team will <strong>present the results of the vote<\/strong> and let&nbsp; Columbia admin know that we are ready and willing to truly fight for our demands.<ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSf9JvAm0HV3KEY74w8V7lNcckyMBUf6MRjal1uF4KNz6gHFOQ\/viewform\"><strong>RSVP to attend the bargaining session here<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/CPWslack\"><strong>Follow along with live updates on Slack<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li><strong>Join our caucuses<\/strong> &#8211; when&nbsp; we break from admin to discuss our next steps including a zoom room &#8211; you are encouraged to join to give your opinion!<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>Where are we in bargaining?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We are expecting a response from the Columbia administration in the few articles left to finalize. These are:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1.- <strong>Compensation<\/strong> (new minimum salaries and yearly raises),&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.- <strong>Benefits<\/strong> (including a housing stipend and the hardship fund to cover medical emergencies),&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3.- <strong>Child Care benefits<\/strong>,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4.- <strong>Appointments<\/strong> (covering who is included in our union and will receive all benefits of our new contract and whether Fellows will have full employment status) and&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5.- <strong>Duration of our next contract<\/strong> &#8211;&nbsp; which we will win next!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While we continue our fight for key economic topics, it\u2019s also important to remember that we have come a long way with important victories for our new contract (like $1,250 towards covering Visa renewal costs, neutral arbitration in cases of bullying and venues to improve IP\/authorship rights &amp; DEI during the life of the contract).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>Thank You!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This campaign is possible thanks to hundreds of postdocs and Associate researchers building our union, reaching out to coworkers, engaging in meetings and rallies, petitions and events. Every vote in the SAV, every new member, and every conversation about our union builds our collective power and moves us closer to the contract we deserve.
