In 2018, we filed a petition to form a union with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), who then held an election of all eligible researchers working for Columbia University to determine whether we would form a union. We won our union election with an overwhelming 68% “yes” vote, and the University now has a legal obligation to negotiate in good faith for a contract covering pay, benefits and rights and protections for us at Columbia. Since then, we have collected bargaining surveys from a majority of PARs, elected a bargaining committee, ratified our bargaining goals, started negotiations with Columbia, and shown majority support for stronger protections against harassment and discrimination through an open letter to the university administration. We are also continuing to reach out to postdoctoral researchers across campus to build our union.  Please contact us if you would like to sign up and/or get more involved.
